All of the interesting technological, artistic or just plain fun subjects I'd investigate if I had an infinite number of lifetimes. In other words, a dumping ground...

CUDA - Graphics development

NVIDIA CUDA™ technology is the only C language environment that unlocks the processing power of GPUs to solve the most complex computation-intensive challenges. NVIDIA's CUDA development tools are consisted of three key components to help you get started:
    1. The latest CUDA driver
    2. A complete CUDA toolkit
    3. CUDA SDK code samples

Toolkit
The CUDA™ Toolkit is a C language development environment for CUDA-enabled GPUs. The CUDA development environment includes:
  • nvcc C compiler
  • CUDA FFT and BLAS libraries for the GPU
  • Profiler
  • gdb debugger for the GPU
  • CUDA runtime driver (also available in the standard NVIDIA GPU driver)
  • CUDA programming manual
Developer SDK

The CUDA Developer SDK provides examples with source code to help you get started with CUDA. Examples include:

  • Parallel bitonic sort
  • Matrix multiplication
  • Matrix transpose
  • Performance profiling using timers
  • Parallel prefix sum (scan) of large arrays
  • Image convolution
  • 1D DWT using Haar wavelet
  • OpenGL and Direct3D graphics interoperation examples
  • CUDA BLAS and FFT library usage examples
  • CPU-GPU C- and C++-code integration
  • Binomial Option Pricing
  • Black-Scholes Option Pricing
  • Monte-Carlo Option Pricing
  • Parallel Mersenne Twister (random number generation)
  • Parallel Histogram
  • Image Denoising
  • Sobel Edge Detection Filter
  • MathWorks MATLAB® Plug-in (click here to download)

SDK code samples are available for download. Installation of the CUDA toolkit is required before running these precompiled examples.

Google Chrome

If you are poking around in Chrome, try visiting pages like: "about:network", "about:stats", "about:dns" and "about:memory"

From http://www.hanselman.com/blog/MicrosoftIE8AndGoogleChromeProcessesAreTheNewThreads.aspx

http://dev.chromium.org/Home

Chromium is an open-source browser project that aims to build a safer, faster, and more stable way for all Internet users to experience the web. This site contains design documents, architecture overviews, testing information, and more to help you learn to build and work with the Chromium source code.

Open source root kit

These tools have been released under the GNU Public License by Immunity. By releasing tools, such as these, we hope to demonstrate our knowledge leadership, and give back to the security community as a whole.

DR RootKit
An IA32 Debug Register based rootkit (last updated: 9/4/2008 SHA1: 2048f537ab3459b21150c2d0b09a042737758d39)

UpPriv 1.0
A Windows utility for letting users run programs as a high privilege if it matches a certain hash.

Download source and binaries

Ply 1.4 C
A modified version of ply version 1.4 (current is 2.2) used internally by MOSDEF.

Download current source tree

Unmidl
A Python utility for recovering typelib data, similar to Matthew Chapman's "muddle" program. Especially useful when a contractor has delivered a server but forgotten to include the interface file.

libdisassemble
A Python library that will disassemble X86.

SPIKE
When you need to analyze a new network protocol for buffer overflows or similar weaknesses, the SPIKE is the tool of choice for professionals. While it requires a strong knowledge of C to use, it produces results second to none in the field. SPIKE is available for the Linux platform only.

SPIKE Proxy
Not all web applications are built in the same ways, and hence, many must be analyzed individually. SPIKE Proxy is a professional-grade tool for looking for application-level vulnerabilities in web applications. SPIKE Proxy covers the basics, such as SQL Injection and cross-site-scripting, but it's completely open Python infrastructure allows advanced users to customize it for web applications that other tools fall apart on. SPIKE Proxy is available for Linux and Windows.

Note: that SPIKE Proxy requires a working install of Python and pyOpenSSL on Linux. This is included in the Windows distribution

Unmask
Unmask was released in 2002 as a demonstration of how to fingerprint users based only on their emails or IRC postings.

MOSDEF
MOSDEF is a next generation exploitation tool. As a pure-Python C compiler, it offers advantages other techniques don't.

The OpenBTS Project Web Pages

Project Backgound

The Open BTS Project is an effort to construct an open-source Unix application that uses the Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) to present a GSM air interface ("Um") to standard GSM handset and uses the Asterisk software PBX to connect calls. The combination of the ubiquitous GSM air interface with VoIP backhaul could form the basis of a new type of cellular network that could be deployed and operated at substantially lower cost than existing technologies in greenfields in the developing world. August 2008: Black Rock City Field Trial

We're still not releasing a lot of code, but we did field-test at Burning Man 2008. If you were at Black Rock City and your phone showed funny networks like 901-55, 666-315 or BRC315G, that was us. If you made a cellular call to the real world, that was also us, although it was probably an accident on our part. Read all about it here.

C++: pointers can't be changed in functions

Can update what the pointer points to but not the pointer.

#include <iostream>
    int t1;
    int t2;

void upPoint(int * s1)
{
    printf("upPoint: p1 before %p, %d\n", s1, *s1);
    s1 = &t2;
    printf("upPoint: p1 after  %p, %d\n", s1, *s1);
}

int main()
{
   t1 = 1;
   t2 = 2;
   int * p1 = &t1;

   printf("p1 before %p, %d\n", p1, *p1);
   upPoint(p1);
   printf("p1 after  %p, %d\n", p1, *p1);

}

g++ -Wall -o pointUpdate pointUpdate.cc

[tohare@masrtcsdev01 test]$ ./pointUpdate
p1 before 0x8049b60, 1
upPoint: p1 before 0x8049b60, 1
